Life's Work: Gene Key 55

I traveled the world on pennies and delusional optimism.

I built a life around riding horses even though I didn't grow up with them.

I then left that world I built an identity around.

I built a business from sharing my art, my heart, and my evolution alongside horses.

I became visible in a way I never thought I could hold.

I said no to a "normal life" LONG before I understood what that meant.

When someone brings me their vision — their business, their creative visione — I see it as something that already exists, fully formed, in a place they can feel but not yet access.

I didn't have words for this until people started describing what happened to them... Clients telling me they felt seen in a way they hadn't expected — that I understood something they hadn't fully said or couldn't articulate themselves. It was like "I was reading their minds" or I would receive symbols, messages, knowings about something they hadn't even told me.

I wasn't trying to do something different. I was just working the way I have always worked, and apparently that is rarer than I knew.

My work becomes a bridge, a way of receiving what is true about a person, a vision, a life, and rendering it into form.

My work, in every form it has taken, is the same act: finding what’s already alive and making it visible.

My life, my work has always been guided by my heart. I make decisions based on mostly feeling and intuition.

I am in surrender with the flow of life.

To create is to be seen. To be seen is to risk everything the horse world and the creative world have told us to protect. Courage is not the absence of fear. It is the decision that what wants to come through matters more than what people will say.

COURAGE

Not the freedom of having no constraints, but the freedom of riding through a forest at full speed — alive, present, completely yourself. Freedom is the destination and the practice simultaneously.

Freedom:

The lifeforce beneath everything, sometimes playful, sometimes deep. The feeling that what you are making matters, that the horse you are with is teaching you something, that you are enjoying your own life rather than watching it happen.

Aliveness:

The Creative Field exists because isolation was never where we were meant to exist. Belonging is the radical act of finding other like-hearted people and allowing yourself to be witnessed as all that you are, and all that you are to be.

Belonging:

I believe in a world where the horse is understood not as sport or tool but as the original teacher of the creative process — where making things is understood not as a hobby or a hustle but as the most human act available to us — and where the people who have always been a little too much for the rooms they were in have found each other and built something none of them could have built alone.

THE vision:

The Creative Field has emerged, giving a greater focus and understanding of what I'm building and who it's for. This is ever-evolving but it's the foundation of what's to come.

THE BUILD

NOW

Returning from South America in the nic of time (the day before everything locked down), I turned to the internet to share my art as a means of income. I didn't realize that it was also my personal process for my unlearning journey with horses, and I would quickly build a community of people I couldn't have imagined existed not long before that.

2020 +

Bought a one-way ticket to New Zealand for a year, working with horses on and ended up falling in love with a Scotsman.

ONE WAY TICKET

2015-2016

UW-Eau Claire: BFA in Graphic Design, didn't love it, but thought it was a "good route" for pursuing an art career.

Summers spent working at a guest ranch, riding horses by day, partying a bit too hard by night.

THE CRAZY COLLEGE YEARS

2011-2015

my Journey

These years felt like an entire lifetime: I worked on a guest ranch and met my soul-horse, Merlin (read our story) who made me question everything that I thought I knew about horses.

In the meantime, I traveled with a backpack through Europe, Central, and South America with Chrisy, discovering more of ourselves.

MOVED TO SCOTLAND

2023

After 7 years of a distance relationship, jumping around countries, I finally got my visa for Scotland and we had an epic Scottish wedding. Castle and all.

During this time I have been doing deep personal work that stretches my capacity. I have been actively working on my fears of being seen, judged, and sharing my voice. I never would have believed you years ago that this is where I would be today (and honestly most people that knew me probably wouldn't either!)
